BTW, even though I missed getting a shot of the store while it still had the famous hen sign, I did scramble up yesterday and take some pictures of the building and of Bingham Junior High School, which I believe is not long for this world.

I worked at Payless grocery at Redbridge Road and Holmes. Family owned place. There was another at 95th & Nall where Price Chopper was until very recently. They had others, too, but I don't remember where. If I remember correctly, Hen House bought all of them when they folded in the early 90's.

Sorry for the two year hiatus in responding but, yes, the information here on the Hen House seems to coincide with my memory. I moved to the Kansas City area in 1953 and I'm sure about that time I went to Hen House for the first time. Thank you dt for the welcome to the site. As you can tell, I don't sign on too often but I have just posted a 1968 list of businesses along Prospect Avenue which was the neighborhood I grew up in.

I believe the grocery store in the Plaza at 424 Nichols Road was George Muehlbach and Sons Grocery. The Milgram was up at 5011 Main Street and another at 3839 Broadway and one at 40th and Main I believe. But, to my knowledge, there was not a Milgram on the Plaza.

There was also a Payless grocery store in the Corinth Square shopping center. It took up the entire west side of the original building as I recall. Owned by Frank Schorgl?
